Dear Amelia -

On Saturday, I got a CNN Breaking News alert on my phone that Whitney Houston had died. So sad. It seems like yesterday I posted this blog about Michael Jackson dying.

Grade story # 41 is told almost every family gathering about Anner thinking her cousin Kenny was shot when it was really President Kennedy. I always find it interesting that Glamma remembers the day that he died and can remember interesting details.

Whitney Houston was the meaning of 80's music. SHE WAS AWESOME. I mean seriously awesome.

And then came the 90's. The Bodyguard was a HUGE hit!! The song "I will always love you" still gives me the goosebumps. So good.

Speaking of goosebumps, you have to watch this. Our country had just gone to war and Whitney sang the National Anthem at the Super Bowl. So good.

Update on the Little Man

Dear Amelia -
As of yesterday, I'm 33 weeks. 33 weeks of growing your little baby brother in my tummy. You think you have a baby in your tummy too, except yours is a sister.

I had my normal doctors appointment on Wednesday. I was scheduled to see my RN and then go get an ultrasound (they call it a BPP ultrasound.) He was tested on 8 things and had 30 minutes to complete. He scored 8/8 within 10 minutes!! Yay! During the ultrasound, the Tech said "How tall is your husband?" When I told him Daddy's height, he said "I can tell, this is a LONG baby!" His guess was that he weighs close to 5lbs right now.
After the Ultrasound, the doctor had asked me to check back in because my Blood Pressure had been high at my appointment, when they checked me again..it was still high. Ugh. It was high with you too so I knew the drill. Next came a Non Stress Test (NST) and then blood work. The NST came back great and so did my blood work. I've gained 8 pounds so she was happy with that (I gained 9 with you...hope to stay around that.)

I've been monitoring my BP at home and its still high so today I start some blood pressure meds. I was put on the meds around the same time with you and look at how cute you turned out :) They suggested I come in weekly for an OB appointment, NST and a BPP until the babe comes! She also mention they will probably induce me when baby is healthy enough, I won't be going to 40 weeks.

Other than that, his (we have a name picked out for him...can you read it on his blankie?) is all painted and his crib is put together. Just need to do some final touches!

We went to Babies R Us this week and bought a TON of diapers, wipes, clothes and paci's. I wonder if he'll be a sports fan like his Daddy and the rest of the men in his life?

The Stephens' Trip Home!

Dear Amelia -

On Friday, I took the day off work and had you stay home from daycare to welcome home the Stephens! Their flight came in at 830am so we had an early trip to the airport. We met Glamma and Cookie there as well. Cookie spotted them walking down and Jaxy started to run to you. That's when I started to cry. I was so happy to have all 3 of them home!! Uncle Billy hadn't been home since August 2010.

You and Jaxy picked up right where you left off in January. You two are so cute together!

On Saturday, we had a big party at Glamma and Cookie's so people could say welcome home to Billy. It was another fun garage party.

Saturday, you also had Dance!! It was Daddy's first time being able to attend the class. You are SO cute, check out the look at the end of this video...

Welcome Home Uncle Billy!

Dear Amelia -

The day we've been waiting for for the last 8 months has FINALLY ARRIVED!!!

We woke up this morning and sent Uncle Billy a note via Facebook.

His ship was scheduled to dock at 830am CST. I cried from 822am - 859am until I had to pull myself together for a meeting.

Once I was done with my meeting, this picture of Billy had just been posted by Pam. I'm so happy that Billy, Pam and Jackson are all back together! Pam did an exceptional job doing EVERYTHING for the last 8 months!

Pam sent me this picture later in the morning of Billy and Jaxy. It just warms my heart.

I can't wait for them to come home next weekend!!! YAY!!!

New room!

Dear Amelia -

With your new brother on the way, we had to come up with a plan quick of where he was going to sleep. Our house is technically a 4 bedroom house - 2 upstairs, 2 downstairs. The rooms upstairs are used for other things - your play room and a dining room. I wasn't comfortable with having you guys downstairs and us upstairs SO the Dirks' Family Suite was invented!!!

For Christmas, we asked for Home Depot gift cards to get new carpet. Glamma and Cookie came over last Saturday to paint before the carpet was installed.

On Monday, the awesome carpet guy came to install the carpet - IT LOOKS SO AMAZING!!!

When you walk down the stairs, your room is the the right. Our new 'suite' is to the left. Our bed faces the fireplace (we've used it maybe twice)

After a couple final touches...the room is ready!!!

We all LOVE IT!! Its an easy sacrifice for you guys!

Next up - Baby boys room!

27 hours in Milwaukee

Dear Amelia -

Lydia's Mom passed away suddenly in the middle of December. They opted to have her service later...this gave us the chance to buy plane tickets at a decent price to go to Milwaukee for the funeral.

Lydia's Mom - Peggy. She was a RIOT!

We woke up nice and early to head to the airport. You were sassy from the get-go.

We landed in Milwaukee at 830am (nice 45 minute flight!) and Mr Stephens' picked us up.

Our first stop was O'Lydia's so Mr Stephens could finish up some stuff around the bar.

Then we went to the house for a bit before heading to the wake and funeral. You were acting up a little during the service so I took you out to the waiting room where you took off your shirt and ran around like a wild woman.
After the service, we traveled to the lunch. The mixture of no nap and waking up at 430am was bad, really bad. You threw a huge (embarrassing) temper tantrum. I quickly got you out of there and went back to the house for a nap!
When you woke up, Robbie found some paints for you to try out. You painted for over an hour. I've never seen you do something for an hour straight!

After painting, you and Mr Stephens (or just Stephens' as you call him) played and laughed until Lydia came home. Then you played with baby Brenda and hid from Mr Stephens before bed.

We woke up early on Sunday and headed over to O'Lydias for a nummy brunch and then it was on to the airport. You screamed on the airplane "POOPY!" about 100 times until the seatbelt sign was turned off so we could head to the bathroom...where you didn't even have to go #2. Silly girl.

We were both excited to see Daddy and Norman when we arrived home!!

Norman Dirks

Dear Amelia -

Sometimes I forget how special our little Norman is. Daddy and I picked him out months after we got married as he was a gift from the Millers (still our favorite gift!) He was born October 6th, 2005. Before you were born, he was like a child to us. When I was pregnant with you, I cried all the time thinking about how his feelings were going to be hurt once you arrived. I quickly forgot about that since you were (are) so precious.

Nerm (our nickname for him) up at the cabin a few years ago

He is everyone's favorite dog. Uncle Aldo and Uncle Billy would have a fist fight to keep him. They would have to share custody.

Anyway, A few years ago...Norman started growing a big growth on his side. He lost some weight (go Nerm!) and the bump kept getting bigger and bigger. Last year when he went to the vet, we had a test done to make sure it wasn't cancerous. It wasn't, PHEW!

Uncle Aldo sent this picture to his step dad - Jim who is a vet to see if he could remove it. GENIUS IDEA!! The plan happened today. Aldo took Norman down to Spring Valley (birth place of the Stapler) to have the growth removed.

He did really well (per Jim and Alex) and is currently resting at the vet office. He is going come home on Saturday.
Aldo sent this picture and when I showed it to you, you said "That's my Morman!" He sure is :)

You and I are heading to Milwaukee on Saturday so we will see him on Sunday when we get back!!

Dear Amelia -
To say we had fun at the Newfield's wedding would be an understatement. We even had fun in the day before and a few days after!

On Thursday, Jaxy and Pam went the wedding rehearsal and we picked up Jackson before the dinner started for a sleepover. In the morning, you guys dressed up in your new dress up clothes!
Jackson looks like Elton John...

Mr Stephens' came over in the afternoon and you guys played for a bit before we headed to the wedding.

I'm waiting for Cookie to post pictures of the actual wedding so I will follow up with those. You were a champ and stayed up until midnight!

Mr Stephens' left the Newfields reception to head to your Great Uncle Johnny's wedding reception.

The next day, we slept until 10am!!! We all obviously needed some sleep. You and I both took a nice nap as well. Jaxy came over around 5 for another sleepover so aunty Pam could go out for NYE.

On Sunday (Happy 2012,) Daddy, Cookie, Uncle Aldo, Sondre, Knut, Kristopher and Torstein went to the Vikings game! 3 of the Norwegian's scored tickets to sit ON THE FIELD!!! Torstein (or Shorestein as you call him) suffers from Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA.) He has to be one of the most amazing people I have ever met. You forget quickly that he is disabled. He is smart, funny and extremely nice. We played a trivia game with him after the game on Sunday and he came in 2nd place (behind his little brother - Dre.) I will consider him my first famous friend...this year in Norway they had a documentary about him traveling in the US. He has promised that when he makes it big, he will introduce me to our fav - Kelly Clarkson :)

Unfortunately, the Norwegians departed America tonight; Pam and Jackson left yesterday. It was so fun to have them around over the Holidays!

Christmas 2011

Dear Amelia -

Christmas got an early kick off with Pam and Jaxy's arrival on Wednesday! You guys have TOO much fun together...

On Christmas Eve, we decided to cancel our plans and stay home. I'm sure glad we did because it was the only time the 3 of us had together. You opened 2 gifts - jammies and a movie. While I prepared the pies and monkey bread...you and Daddy watched the movie! Then it was time for you to go to bed so Santa could do his work!

You were so excited to see what Santa brought you in the morning. He got you a toy chest with DRESS UP CLOTHES! You loved it and tried on everything that was in the chest.

We headed over to Kiki's at 9am to hang with them for awhile. Kiki got you some new skates that go along perfectly with the skating lessons that Glamma and Cookie got you! Yay!

At 3, we headed over to a packed house at Glamma and Cookies. Santa arrived around 4 and gave you one more present until next year! Around bed time, we talked you and Jaxy (along with Owen and Mac) into watching a movie on Glamma and Cookies bed.

You were both overstimulated the next morning when we opened presents. You took a nap by 11am and were back to yourself, Thank goodness!

We headed to Fort Snelling for an annual party we have with Glamma's friends. You and Jaxy love eachother SO much...its adorable.

Its weird to think that next year, your little brother will be there to join us! Fun! 3 more months!

Dancin', Puppies and Princesses

Dear Amelia -

On Saturday, you had an informal Dance Rehearsal. Glamma, Cookie and Aldo joined us for the special dance class. I actually caught the only dance moves you did on video. Other than this, you just looked around and smiled. Adorable but not ideal :)

After dance, we went over to the Mayer's to meet their new puppy, Brody. He is SO cute.

Later that night, I had a get together with Brooke, Ashley and Courtney K to celebrate Brooke's upcoming wedding to Greg. We had so much fun. Ashley surprised you with an AWESOME gift! Every single Disney Princess! You love them!

Yesterday we had Dirks' Christmas. We are so thankful that Grandpa Dirks' has recovered from his heart attack at the beginning of November so he could join us. They are such a special couple.

Let Christmas week begin!

OH AND...there is another new baby in the family! Bjorna and Kevin had baby Margit on Saturday! Congrats :)

Santa 2011

Dear Amelia -

We had such a busy day on Saturday. First we started with Dance Class and then headed to my company's annual Christmas party.

First we took some pictures by our Tree. You were hammin it up.

We got the party at noon and the big guy showed up around 1. You were grinning ear to ear when he arrived and couldn't wait to sit on his lap!!

After PD's party, we went to Aubby and Doody's house to celebrate Christmas with Papa Jim. You had so much fun playing.

On Sunday, you and Daddy headed back over to the Soukups while I rested. I needed to rest so it was nice that Daddy allowed me to stay home.

Weight Gain: 3 lbs - Lost one last week. Hmmm.

What's different this time: Chasing after a 3 year old, that didn't happen last time.

Cravings: Oranges!

Aversions: Meat

Sleep: Good, except the 3-4 times getting up to go potty!

I am loving: the Christmas Spirit!

I miss: Beer.

I'm spazzing about: My BP. Had a melt down this weekend but I called the doctor in the morning and she said she was not concerned.

Best thing about this week: This baby is going crazy in my tum.

I am looking forward to: 3 Christmas parties on Saturday!

Milestones: Baby is the size of a Ear of Corn

Tree Shopping and Kelly Clarkson

Dear Amelia -

Wow, what a weekend! Friday, we celebrated my birthday by going out to dinner. I couldn't have asked for two better dates!

Saturday, You and I headed to dance class. After dance, we met Glamma and Cookie at Ginny's house. Mommy and Daddy had a wedding on Saturday night. We had our first big snow fall of the year. Driving home from the wedding wasn't the most fun thing I've ever done but it sure looked pretty.

On Sunday, I headed over to pick you up. After you had some breakfast, we headed to Target with Glamma and then we went home to pick up Daddy to go Christmas Tree Shopping. In typical Dirks' fashion, we picked a tree in less than 3 minutes.

On Sunday night, Ashley and I went to Jingle Ball...Kelly Clarkson was the finishing act. It was the 8th time I've seen her in concert...which ties for my attendance at Backstreet Boys Concerts.
You and I took a picture before I left to show how big my belly is getting! Oy!

Here is our fav singing "I'll be home for Christmas". She blows me away and makes me cry.

When I got home from the concert, I snuck into your room to see how cute you were sleeping. I accidentally woke you up and the first words out of your mouth were "You see Kelly Clarkson, Mommy?" followed by a request for a bathroom break. Girl after my own heart.

Thanksgiving and Margee's 80th bday!

Dear Amelia -

Wow, what a busy weekend! Thursday, we headed over to the Grade/Moore's for Thanksgiving dinner. It was a beautiful day outside so we spent a lot of time outdoors. Dinner was DELISH!

On Friday, we went over to Glamma and Cookies early to help them get ready for Margee's 80th surprise bday party! She was the perfect person to surprise, later in the evening she said "This is the most fun I've ever had!" She's a special lady!

It was a fiesta theme, so you had your first try at hitting a pinata. You did pretty good! So did Margee!

Another fun perk to the party, is we got to see some of our other cousins who we don't get to see as often. We hung out with baby Xav...I'm not sure he could be any cuter if he tried.

First Dance Class

Saturday was your first day of dance class at Dancersice. You weren't sure what to think, you watched more than you danced. Miss Andrea said that is very normal, hopefully next week you will want to participate more :)

Also, when I asked what most of the kids wore...they told me "something comfortable." I didn't know you would be amongst ballerinas. Your outfit for this upcoming Saturday will be adorbs, promise!

Three years old!!!

Dear Amelia -

You are 3 and I can't even believe it!!! On Friday, you celebrated your birthday with your friends at daycare. I cried when I dropped you off, hormones.

On Saturday, you went to Aldo's last home game while Mommy and Daddy went on the Pedal Pub! I was a bump in the road (including the road kill on top of my head) and Daddy was the bump sign!!

On Sunday, we woke up and got the house ready for your party. At 840am, we chatted about how you were born into the world 3 years ago. Your party started at noon! You really needed a nap before the party but oh well, you are 3 after all!

You picked out your own puppy cake...we had them add a pink bow on it to girly it up!!

When we sang Happy Birthday, I couldn't even get thru the whole song...I started to cry (hormones.) You are the most precious (even when you are being the devil) little girl in the whole wide world.

This was probably your favorite gift, a baby doll with matching jammies for YOU!!! Thanks Mr Stephens and Lydia!

Bumpdate: Week 18

Dear Amelia - I was sick of the last questionaire so I'm going to use this one...

How Far Along: 18 weeks!

Innie or Outtie: Innie...I don't think I have EVER had an outtie. Probably never will either!

Maternity Clothes: I LOVE MATERNITY CLOTHES. There. I said it. I admitted it. They are just SO COMFY!

Sleep: Pretty good. I've been going to be between 8-9p this week and waking up before 6a so I get pretty tired by night time. I could go to sleep right now.

Best Moment this week: NOT BARFING ONCE!!! YAY!

Gender: 1.5 weeks until we find out!! I can't wait!

Movement: Just little flutters

Surprise trip to Norfolk, VA!

Dear Amelia -
We made a surprise visit down to Norfolk last Thursday - Sunday! Pam was totally on to us that I was coming but she had no idea you were.

You were such a good girl on the flight down to VA, you even fell asleep on my lap...that never happens.

We arrived at Billy, Pam and Jaxy's house around 3pm on Thursday. She left a key for us so we waited for them to come home. You and I hid in the back yard until they arrived. You and Jaxy were shy at first but then it didn't take too long for you to warm up :)

Bed time came too quickly...Glamma read you some bedtime stories.

In the morning, Aunty Pam and I headed to get some pedis while you and Jaxy played with Glamma. When we returned, we headed to Virginia Beach. You and Jaxy played on the play ground while the mommy's relaxed after a great lunch.

On Saturday, we hung out in the morning...then took a drive up to Williamsburg, VA. We meet Jaye and Susie for dinner where your behavior made us pull out the dvd player in the middle of dinner, Jackson wasn't ready to stop watching while we walked around...Pam thinks this picture should be turned in as a "Mother of the year award"...hilarious.

On Sunday, we hung around a bit until it was time to head to the airport.

It was so hard saying goodbye but we were SO happy to be home with Daddy!!!

On Saturday, we headed to a playground to meet Kiki, Jody from Alaska, Bumpa, Gigi, Jaymi, Ana and Adrien and some others for a fun picnic! You loved the playground.

On Sunday, we had Papa Jim, Aubrey, Jaymi, Ana and Adrien over for the afternoon. You guys played in leaves and we watched some football! Fun for all!

Aversions: Anchovies. Who eats those things anyway?

Sleep: Pretty dang good.

I am loving: Feelin little baby flutters!

I miss: Beer.

I'm spazzing about: A busy couple of weeks coming up.

Best thing about this week: Saturday - WEEKEND!!!

I am looking forward to: Taking a nap on Saturday and Sunday

Milestones: Baby is 4.5", 3.5" ounces

Exercise: I've ran up and down the stairs about 1000 times this week at work. That's fun. Not.

We headed down to Winona this weekend to watch Uncle Aldo's football game! There were so many cute pictures I couldn't decide which to post, so I posted them all.

We did a little tailgating before the game. Here are you and Cookie going for a little walk.

You were so well behaved the whole time. What a difference a year makes!

Due Date: March 29, 2012...TWO THOUSAND AND TWELVE. Thank you Kellee for pointing our my 2011 reference last week :)

Weight Gain: .5

Symptoms: Just freakin' tired girlfriend, like 810pm bed time. A little barfy barf a few times a week still. Actually - only once this week! Yay!

What's different this time: Its going by SO much faster this time (have I already said that?)

Cravings: Apple cider.

Aversions: Beef and Chicken...still.

Sleep: Have I ever mentioned how much I love to sleep. I pee'd 3 times last night...hope this is not the start.

I am loving: The weather we are having this week! 80's ba-by!

I miss: Beer.

I'm spazzing about: The doctor has scared the crap out of me about high blood pressure. Ugh.

Best thing about this week: When I was preggers with you, I felt you move at 15 weeks...hopefully we'll feel some movement soon.

I am looking forward to: We are heading to Winona on Saturday! I can't wait!

Milestones: Baby is 4", 2.5 ounces...about the size of an apple!

Movement: Hopefully this week!

Bumpdate: Week 14

Dear Amelia -
Due Date: March 29, 2011 still. And I just found out its leap year, one more day to be pregnant. Yippie!

Weight Gain: .5 but somehow the doctor had the wrong pre-pregnancy weight (you know, 127 pounds) so it looked like I had gained 8 pounds already. I said "Uhhh...no." and made her change it to reflect that I actually weigh 134.5 ;) I gained 9 pounds with you so I hope to keep it right around there.

Symptoms: I had a migraine that was killer yesterday. Threw up at work (that was fun, not) and in the middle of the night. Your daddy took good care of me tho.

What's different this time: I honestly have no idea what I'm having this time. With you, I knew you were a girl the whole time.

Cravings: The smell of lemons. I think I could squeeze lemon juice in my mouth.

Aversions: Beef and Chicken...still.

Sleep: I really love to sleep. I don't think the 9 hours I'm getting is enough. I could go take a nap RIGHT NOW!

I am loving: You singing to everything. I know this has nothing to do with "the bump" but its pretty funny. Happy Birthday is your fav right now.

I miss: Beer.

I'm spazzing about: A little cramping I had yesterday.

Best thing about this week: I'm finally getting my facial on Saturday!

Milestones: 3.5" babe, the size of a lemon...coincidence?

Bumpdate: Week 13

Dear Amelia -
Due Date: March 29, 2011 but at my last appt...I think she told me to move that up a day but I can't really remember. So I'll just go with the 29th.

Weight Gain: .5. Probably from all of the delish food over the weekend. Daddy and I had really yummy steaks for our anniversary and the football party...there was WAY too much nummy food.

Symptoms: Really sick Monday and Tuesday. On Monday, I even had morning sickness at 9pm.

What's different this time: It seems to be going faster this time. Probably because you have kept me so busy!!

Cravings: Nothing really this week.

Aversions: Beef and Chicken

Sleep: Must. sleep. more

I am loving: Diet Coke...1 per day

I miss: Beer and Phyllis

I'm spazzing about: My doctors appointment today! Hearing the heartbeat :) UPDATE: Heard the heartbeat - 150 bpm and there was lots of movin around while the doc was listening! YAY!

Best thing about this week: The bubble bath I just took!

I am looking forward to: Heartbeat!

Milestones: Hmmm...the baby is 2" (the size of a Medium Shrimp)

Movement: zippo...too early!

Fun filled weekend!

Dear Amelia -

We had a busy weekend! Friday, we met Kiki, Aubby and Doodie at a park in Bloomington to celebrate Aubrey and Daddy's birthdays. You had so much fun...until you fell down the wooden stairs. Oops.

Saturday, we headed up to St Cloud for Owen and Coltons birthday party. It was at Bounce Depot. What a fun place! They have a bunch of blow up things to jump in and slides. Fun times!

Sunday, we went over to Ashley's house to watch the Vikings lose. Again. Ugh.

You were so tired after the weekend...so were we!

FINALLY! I CAN SHARE SOME BIG NEWS ON THE BLOG! Your baby brother or sister is on the way. YAYYY!!!
Bjorna has been updating her Bumpdate every Monday and I really love reading it so I thought it would be fun for me to do as well!

Due Date: March 29, 2011 - Makes me 12 weeks TODAY!

Weight Gain: 0. Not even an ounce. Go me.

Symptoms: Bigger belly, tired, morning sickness a couple of times a week.

What's different this time: I threw up EVERY day with you. Thank goodness that has changed. I can't remember being this tired with you though.

Cravings: Carmel Apple...I bought a HUGE one in the Dells and shared it with my friends at work. YUM!

Aversions: Beef. Weird.

Sleep: Not enough...

I am loving: Chips

I miss: Beer. I'm going to say that one every week.

I'm spazzing about: Making sure everything is okay this time.

Wisconsin Dells, WI

Dear Amelia -

On Saturday morning, you and I headed to the Wisconsin Dells to meet Mr Stephens and Lydia. Daddy had to meet us later because he had a longer than normal route.

1st thing we did was go swimming. You slept almost the whole way there so you were ready to get out and play. They had a fun little kiddie pool there. You also went down a super fast slide and went under water. You weren't too sure what to think of that.

You had fun swinging on the swings with both Mr Stephens & Lydia

Lydia got you a cute little lady bug that you can't go anywhere without.

Once Daddy go to our hotel, we went out for nice dinner...then back to the hotel where we let you stay up late.

Sunday morning we went shopping around the Dells and were on the road so we could get home by the time of the start of the (disappointing) Vikings game.

We can't wait to make the Dells a fun tradition!

Baby shower, Baby Jack and State Fair BA-BY!

Dear Amelia -
Oops, fell a little behind on the blog. I was in California last week working so the week felt so short! I saw Demi Lovato at the Corporate Apple store and asked to take my picture with her and she said no. I'm never letting this one down. What a meany.

Anyway, back to you. Last Sunday, we went over to the Liebs for Baby Paulson's baby shower! Baby P is due at the end of September. We met baby Jack (Kris and Nicks baby) for the first time. You LOVED baby Jack. You held him for 20 minutes. It was very cute.

The Liebs had a swimming pool that you enjoyed spending time in. We are looking forward to going to the Wisconsin Dells with Mr Stephens and Lydia in a few weeks!

This past Saturday we went to the Great Minnesota Get together! You had a blast on all of the rides!

Daddy just texted me this:

While Daddy was up at Uncle Doodie's cabin this weekend...you and I did lots of fun stuff.

Friday night - we skyped with Jaxy and aunty Pam.

We woke up early on Saturday because we were bored and headed over to Glamma and Cookies to greet Sondre (aka 'Dre)

At 11, we headed to Anna Nail for your very first Mani and Pedi! You were such a good girl. You did make the girl touch up your nails a few times because you kept smudging them but they look beautiful. You love them!

Saturday night we went out on the boat. You really like to go fast...and fake laugh.

Before Daddy came home on Sunday, we went out to lunch with Ashley, Brooke and Courtney K.

Daddy was home around 130, we were both very happy to see him!

Tore Gloppen

Dear Amelia -

Today is the first day of Sondre's year in America. It made me think of Tore's time here in 2001/2002. When he first arrived - we thought the things he said were hilarious. Like "is that your super market?" talking about a small gas station. "Paddle fattle" instead of "Quack quack seat back." The list goes on and on.

After Tore left in the summer of 2002 - Billy followed him back to "go to school" in Fagernes (Tore's home town)...if that's what you want to call it.

Then we didn't see our little stud muff until 2006 when we all went to Florida. My favorite memory from there was Tore singing "Piano Man" at the bar across the street from our condo. That song can instantly bring a tear to my eye.

After Florida - it was another couple of years. He and a bunch of his friends came in town for Billy and Pam's wedding. So fun. This was the first time you and Jaxy met Tore "Danger"

Most recently we met up with Tore in Florida this year. Its always so fun to see him but always so hard to say goodbye. I cry like a baby every time. I miss him.

Our pretend trip to the cabin

Dear Amelia -

The plan was to go up to the cabin this weekend. We forgot we were dogsitting so that really wasn't a possibility. We just pretended like we were at the cabin anyway. That equals - no showers, no getting out of our jammies if we didn't want to, no diets.

Saturday morning, you and I went to Lunds to pick up some stuff to make cookies. You had SO MUCH FUN helping me make them. You didn't quite understand that they were immediately ready to eat. The big bummer came when I realized I didn't put any Baking Soda in them. Dang it.

Once Daddy got home from work - we headed out on the boat.

I can count on my hand the number of times you've fallen asleep on me. You usually are much too busy to sit still for long enough. Saturday you were so tired, you fell asleep right on the boat.

Sunday we were right back at it again! It was a beautiful day!

This weekend was pretty low key. We didn't do anything on Friday night or Saturday. Sunday was a bit busier.

We went and visited Great Grandma Carmen who moved into a nursing home a few months ago. I was surprised to see how skinny she has gotten.

She let you jump on her bed and point to every picture and ask to see it. Grandma decided out visit was over and said "I'm going to go now" and we left.

We had Adriens first birthday party in Lake City, MN at a beach. It was such a fun date celebrating Adrien!

Friday night we went over to Amy and Ross' house because the Ciebiera's were in town! It was HOT. Really hot. You obviously have your Daddy's sweat glands...you were sweatin' like crazy!

You and Gracie played on the sport court and had fun scaring people (you thought it was hilarious)

And you got REALLY REALLY excited when baby Xav joined the party! The second their car door opened, you said "MOMMY THE BABY IS HERE!"

That Xavier is such a lover. So are his parents and aunty Cole. I'm so glad their joined us!

Saturday we went out on the boat and ended at Sunsets for a little lunch. Fun day!

First Twins Game and the Raspberry parade 2011

Daddy and I took you to the Twins game on Saturday. My work gave me 4 tickets for the Legends Club (not too shabby for your first game.) Burt Blyleven's jersey number was retired so it was a good game to go to!

We had your face painted and had some cracker jacks! You were such a good girl. We stayed until the top of the 7th. It was H-O-T!

Speaking of hot...we went to the Hopkins Raspberry Parade on Sunday. HOLY COW it was BOILING hot! We found out you have your Daddy's sweat glands...your whole face was sweaty.

Pam and Jackson came in town on Wednesday! We had so much fun with them this weekend! The weekend started out with a boat ride on Friday night! There was a nasty storm moving in so we went back to the house where Jackson aka Jackie wanted to put on your jammies...

Then you guys crawled in bed to watch the Backyardagains before bedtime.

PARENT BREAK: Pam, Jon, Daddy and I went to the Twins game on Saturday night. We had awesome seats in the Legends Club and went to Uptown afterwards!

Sunday night you and Jaxy had a sleepover at our house.

You didn't want to let anyone else hold him and even cried when we took him away. It was pretty cute!

Last week - we found this bargain on Craigslist...it matches the adult one we have in the backyard. This is what I got home to on Friday...what a cool dudette.

Daddy had a great Fathers Day! We gave him his present a day early - just what he wanted...a Motorola Roadster. On Sunday, we let him sleep in before meeting Papa Jim (who you just call Jim, hilarious.) for brunch. It was a fun day!

Mothers Day 2011

Dear Amelia -

Another wonderful Mothers Day. I woke up early to finish my cake pops while you and Daddy slept. We just hung out most of the morning until it was nap time.

Glamma set up a tour of the house she grew up in South Minneapolis.

It was a surprise to Flossy, what a wonderful surprise.

Inside there were some old memories inside including your Great uncle's name in his hand writing. I wish we could have met him.

When they were done with their tour, we all met at the Krugers for lunch then headed over to Kiki's to spend some time with her, Gigi and Bumpa.

We were all very tired and happy to be home by the end of the day.

Another big day in History

Dear Amelia -
I woke up this morning to the news that Osama Bin Laden is dead. I've never wished anyone dead but this guy deserved it. He was the "mastermind" behind 9/11. After hearing the news, it took me back to 9/11/2001.

Mommy:
I was asleep when the attack happened. Molly and I were living together in Excelsior at the time. She called and told me to turn on the TV. I did but couldn't believe my eyes. The rest of the day, I stayed glued to the TV until I had to go to work at the hotel. It was devastating.

I asked Daddy to reflect, even though I know he didn't want to...he did anyway:
I was at Hennepin Tech in Brooklyn Park in the cafeteria during a break from class eating a muffin and watching one of the tvs in the cafeteria. When I started watching the first plane had already hit and the people on CNN didn't know that it was on purpose yet. I was watching when the second plane flew into the second tower. I was just in shock, I couldn't believe what was happening and why. I just remember shock.

Luckily we have people like Uncle Billy and Blaker to defend our country against the bad guys. Today is a good day (and everyday) to be an American!

The reason I'm reflecting is so one day, you know our thoughts on big events in History.

There is the classic Grade story (#52) of when President Kennedy was shot. Anner thought he cousin Kenny was shot. We practically hear that story everytime the family is together.

Prince William + Princess Kate's wedding

Depending on who you ask...today was a big day in history.

Prince William and (the new) Princess Kate Middleton got married. People still talk about Prince Charles and Princess Diana's wedding and I thought to myself, "I wonder how big of a deal that was in 1981?" We should ask Glamma some day what she remembers.

Daddy's thoughts: "Who cares"

Mommy's thoughts in between crying: "Kate Middleton was the most beautiful bride I have ever seen. I want to be her. The wedding it self was a snoozefest but the lead up to it did not disappoint"

You started a new daycare last Tuesday. She lives REALLY close to our house so it will be nice that Daddy can pick you up if I need to work late. Cathy (your new daycare lady) sent me this picture on your first day.

This weekend, we put you in your first BIG GIRL BED! I still need to paint your walls (I'm thinking one of the colors from your new bedding on the bottom below the chair rail and white on top with something fun drawn on one of the walls by Sarah)
You were a little scared on Saturday night to go to sleep but you've slept great the last two nights!!!

On Sunday, we celebrated Easter with the Dirks. Papa Jim took us out to Chuck E. Cheese afterwards. You had so much fun!

White Noise!

Dear Amelia -

I am lucky enough to love my job. I get to work on the coolest projects and with some really awesome people!

My boss has been working on an amazing play called White Noise. Since I'm his "coordinator of chaos" I was brought in to help with the little stuff like travel, expenses and coordinating print. After working on this for the last 2 + years, the day was finally here for the big opening in Chicago!

Melissa, who works with Holly - one of the producers and I met at the Chicago airport. We had talked on the phone only about 1000 times so it was nice to meet in person. We became fast friends...

This is the closest I got to Ms. Goldberg (another Producer of the show!)

The show was so very powerful and AMAZING! The kind of show that has you laughing one second and crying the next. It is a MUST see and something I am very happy to be a part of! Next stop...Broadway!

This will go down in the books as one of the coolest experiences of my life!

Florida 2011!

Dear Amelia -

Well, Florida did not disappoint this year! The weather, the beach, the ocean, the pool and the company were awesome!

You were a very good girl on the plane ride down there. We didn't get in until 9pm and you went straight to bed. The next day, we hung by the beach and pool all day and you didn't take a nap...until you snuggled with uncle Billy!

We decided to get a babysitter for you and Jaxy Sunday and Monday night so we could do adult stuff. On Tuesday, Uncle Billy and Aunty Pam went on a date...we decided to dress Jackie, I mean Jackson up...
On Tuesday night, Mommy and Daddy went bowling with Tore, Billy and Pam. We had such a great time and it was a highlight of the vaca!
Its always hard saying bye to everyone, I cry every time.

Dear Amelia -

Your 2nd cousin Grace has been doing something on Facebook called the "30 day photo challenge" I decided to do it all in one day with some pics but mostly words

1 - Daddy and I went to prom together

2 - I put vaseline on my eye lids every night because it takes my eye make up off and I heard it keeps the wrinkles away.

Taylors birthday party

Dear Amelia -

You went to your first birthday party yesterday (besides family.) They had it at Little Gym in St Louis Park. You loved it.

You started off by using the balance beam

Then took a ride on the parachute and fell in love with Colin

You loved it!

Glamma works with Taylor's Mom...we thought it was so nice that they invited you to the party! What a fun time! Happy birthday Taylor!

A sick lil leprechaun

Dear Amelia -

I'm home with you today. You are sick :( You were called home from Daycare on Tuesday with a temp. Daddy stayed with you yesterday so today is my turn. We tried to go to an urgent care yesterday but after waiting for 1 hour 45 mins, we left. Its not very often that you will snuggle

Not to mention fall asleep on my lap

This morning you woke up with a bit of a temp but were feeling pretty good.

I made a doctors appt for you because you've been blinking weird for the last few days, when I told to the doctor that...she thought you might have strep (its a sign I guess.) SURE ENOUGH!

You are currently taking a nap on this beautiful St Patrick's Day!

Underwater Adventures and Bieber Fever

Dear Amelia -

This past weekend, Glamma and I took you to Underwater Adventures at the Mall of America. It cost $19 per adult to go, not sure it was worth that but you had fun seeing all of the fish!

After seeing that, we did some shopping. You are such a big girl now, you want nothing to do with your stroller. After shopping, Glamma took us to lunch at the Rainforest Cafe. Fun! We went back to Glamma's for a nap and spent the night over there since Daddy and Cookie were out of town ice fishing.

You have your first crush. And it is on Justin Bieber.

Anytime any other song comes on in the car, you fake cry until "Bieber" comes on. Its pretty cute.
